Over a decade ago, the birth of Acura changed the luxury automobile market forever. Before then, driving enthusiasts had a choice of only a handful of luxury brands - all manufactured in Europe or in the United States. But on March 27, 1986, Acura introduced its very first luxury automobile - and drivers were given another choice.

Nearly a decade of research and development went into the creation of that first Acura. The result was an automobile that combined the handling virtues, all-out performance, and comfort and convenience features traditionally found in upscale European and American luxury marques with reliability, uncompromising quality and user-friendly design that a generation of drivers had come to expect from the best automobiles in Japan.

Fourteen years after its inception, that initiative is still showing extraordinary results. Acura is an acknowledged leader in the luxury-performance import field. From a start up in 1986 that featured three models, Acura has offered up to six distinct lines of automobiles.
